Monday, March 27, 2017 - Fès - Volubilis - Meknes
We start our guided city walk through Fès at the Royal Palace. Then the local guide leads us to the old town (9th century). By bus we go to a fortification (Borj) above the Medina where we enjoy a fantastic panoramic view of Fès. Back to Fès we visit the new town (13th century). The guided tour then ends at the Blue Gate (Bab Bou Jeloud).
After lunch in a restaurant outside Fès we go to Volubilis, an ancient Roman settlement. This excavation site only gives us an idea of the fact, how wonderful the buildings have been at the time of the Romans, but the site is regional nicely situated and for that reason alone worth a visit.
From Volubilis we go on to Meknes to the City Gate Bab Mansour. We have an hour to explore the place of the jugglers. In the beginning evening there are mainly snake charmers, monkey tamers and gymnasts. Animal protection seems to be unknown here - the snakes are often kicked and stunned, the monkeys are kept on short chains. At 7 o'clock p.m. we go to our hotel Menzeh Dalia.
