Aphrodisias

04.03.2016 Visiting a carpet weaving mill, Aphrodisias (Geyre) and  Kusadasi again

Todays first target is a carpet weaving mill near the town Denizli. Serap explains that this mills in Turkey have a social function. The idea is to create jobs for the countrywomen in order to detach them from social an familial dependencies (social assoziation "butterflies"). To realize this idea they have to sell carpets and that's why tourists like us are taken to these mills.

At first some weavers demonstrate their skills in different materials and also we learn how silk is procuced from the cocoon of the silkworm. Up to this point we are allowed to photograph or to film. But when we are taken to the salesrooms with a lot of exhibits it is strictly forbidden to photograph or to film.

The employees who show us the different carpets are all fluent speaking German. Each couple of us now has a individual escort who of course wants to sell, but we soon make clear, that we are not going to buy a carpet.

From the carpet weaving mill we go on to the remains of ancient Aphrodisia located in the near of the town Geyre. This excarvation shows remains of Aphrodite's temple, Hadrian's baths, theater and sport arenas. It's also worth to visit the museum.

After a ride of about 250km we are back to Kusadasi, where we spend the night in Tusan Beach Ressort Hotel this time.
