In the now almost 37 years of working at the high school "Gymnasium an der Gartenstraße" I have made a lot of pictures. Photos with analog cameras to slide or negative films. Until the mid-80s it was worth it even to develop the films and the pictures to enlarge myself. For this, the school had a very well equipped laboratory. Mid 80's, the large laboratories came up and the prices for enlargements were there cheaper than the cost of self-development and enlargement. So the lab was only used to create special enlargements, especially for slides. Later, the analog cameras have been replaced by digital and the laboratory by computer and color printer. That makes things a lot easier, especially more stable. In many slides and negatives already gnawed the ravages of time, when I started to digitize them. Unfortunately, this is to look at many of the old photos, but they may have sentimental value.
Carnival
The pictures of the sublevels carnival were made in the period 1979 - 1980. The preferred "victim" of course, were students who had studied with me. In addition, of course, colleagues and students who presented Something. When you mind the quality of the photos please take into account, of course, that there always were hectic, bad light and auto focus was not yet invented then, so the one or the other picture is a little blurry. Also, I've mentioned elsewhere that a number of negatives were already damaged.
Trips
In the first class, I had about three years as a classroom teacher, I took the camera even at hiking days. Later I fixed only school trips and study tours in images. I particularly like photographing at sailing trips, but also the study trips to Rome or to the Camargue offered worthwhile motives. In my last sailing trip with a school class in 2001 I didn't make photographs but tried out my first video camera instead, digital, but still with ribbon and of course not in HD. If I have time, I will provide a short version of the resulting videos at this point into the network. Students who participated in this tour and would like to have the complete video may send me an email.
Theater
Since 1980 I have been photographing always with fun the performances of our theater-study-groups and our literature courses. I started with "The Madwoman of Chaillot" under the direction of Dr. Hoster. At that time it was still connected with a whole lot of work, because the photographs should be used to make advertisement for the perormance. There were no digital cameras or color printers. So I had to go down to the laboratory just after the shooting, take the film in the dark out of the camera, then develop, fix, rinse and dry it. Then make test exposures to compensate for the masking of the film and to avoid color faults, etc. Unfortunately, the format 30x40 did not fit into the roll developers (max. 18 x 24cm), but had to be developed in a drum so that it took hours, to make a few useful copies. Today, everything is much simpler: you shoot, possibly improve over the computer and print it out. The problem today is that you make too many photos. You might sort out a lot of pictures of minor quality, but that is not so easy. In addition, many of the actors would perhaps like to find herself/himself on a photo.
First time in 2014 I filmed some sequences during the performance, the videos are at this point also published.
